Lion Brewery Ceylon PLC (LBCL) is a Sri Lankan based company, engaged in the business of brewing and marketing of high-quality beers to local and international markets.

LBCL has its roots going back to over a century in the brewing industry of Sri Lanka, where its holding company, Ceylon Beverage Holdings PLC – formerly known as ‘The Ceylon Brewery’-, was founded as the country’s first brewery.

Today, LBCL is the owner of the iconic national beer brand “Lion”, which is amongst the top 10 brands in Sri Lanka with a significant market share in the local beer industry. Being the largest brewer in Sri Lanka with a world-class state of the art manufacturing facility, LBCL currently operates within both mild and strong beer segments with a solid and an award-winning brand portfolio comprising of Lion Lager, Lion Stout, Lion Strong, Ryder’s Wild Apple Beer and Ryder’s Ginger Blast Beer.

LBCL has a 30 year strategic relationship with the Carlsberg Group, with the license to manufacture, market and distribute Carlsberg, Carlsberg Special Brew amongst others in Sri Lanka. Further, LBCL also benefits from its parent company’s premium beer, spirits and wines business where it imports and markets premium brands from global business partners such as Diageo, AB InBev and Brown-Forman.
Apart from its local market position, the export business of LBCL has an extensive global coverage which spans over 25 countries. At present, the “Lion” brand stands as the No. 01 beer brand in Maldives with a market share close to 50%. In addition, the “Lion” brand has gained noticeable toehold in the markets of Africa, Europe, Australasia, North America and East Asia.

With over 40 international awards for brewing excellence, Lion Brewery has established a strong recognition over the years, both as a Company and a brand. As its recent corporate accolades, LBCL was rated as an “AAA” corporate by Fitch ratings and the “Lion” Brand was chosen as the 8th valuable brand in the country and 1st in the FMCG category in a brand finance study carried out in 2020.
